Born on March 5, 1991, in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Trifonov began his musical journey at the tender age of five, studying piano with his mother. He made his solo debut at seven and soon gained recognition as a child prodigy. In 2000, he began studying with Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow, and later, from 2009 to 2015, he studied with Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Trifonov's impressive list of awards and accolades includes the first prize and grand prix at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011, the first prize at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, and a prizewinner at the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2010.
