Rock guitarist and songwriter, best known as a founding member of the rock band Velvet Revolver, contributing to their debut album "Contraband".
When it comes to the world of hard rock, there are few names as synonymous with riff-based mastery as Dave Kushner, the rhythm guitarist extraordinaire behind the iconic supergroup Velvet Revolver. With a career spanning multiple bands, collaborations, and solo projects, Kushner's influence on modern rock music is undeniable.
Born on November 16, 1966, in Los Angeles, Kushner's journey into the world of music began at a tender age. He attended Junior High and High School with none other than Slash, frequently attending shows of Slash's then-band Tidus Sloan. Kushner's passion for music led him to start playing in bands at 16, and by 18, he was enrolled at the prestigious Musicians Institute in Hollywood.
Kushner's big break came when he joined Wasted Youth as a guitarist, releasing the album Black Daze in 1988. However, it was his stint with Velvet Revolver that truly cemented his status as a rock legend. With hits like "Slither" and "Fall to Pieces," the band's debut album Contraband (2004) propelled Kushner to international stardom.
But Kushner's creative juices didn't stop flowing with Velvet Revolver. He has collaborated with the likes of Infectious Grooves, Cyco Miko, and even Indian singer-actress Shruti Haasan. In 2010, he formed the band DKFXP with Scars on Broadway guitarist Franky Perez, releasing music under the moniker. Kushner has also ventured into film and television scoring, composing music for the FX series Sons of Anarchy and receiving an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music in 2009.
Kushner's remarkable career has been punctuated by numerous awards and recognition. In 2009, he was named one of Total Guitar magazine's "50 Greatest Unsung Guitar Heroes Ever." His scoring work on Sons of Anarchy earned him an ASCAP Award in 2010.
Dave Kushner's impact on modern rock music is undeniable. His unique playing style, which blends rhythmic sensibility with melodic flair, has influenced a generation of rock musicians. As a testament to his enduring legacy, Kushner continues to inspire and educate, sharing his vast knowledge with aspiring musicians through workshops and clinics.
