In mid-1983, before turning 13, Sgouros graduated from the conservatory with a professor's diploma, teacher's diploma, first prize, and a gold medal. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the University of Maryland, College Park, in the United States, graduating from the Royal Academy with the highest marks the institution had ever awarded.
