Emily Procter is an American actress and activist, best known for her captivating performances as Ainsley Hayes in the NBC political drama The West Wing and as the seductive and brilliant Detective Calleigh Duquesne in the CBS police procedural drama CSI Miami.
Born on October 8, 1968, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Procter was adopted by William Procter, a general practitioner, and Barbara Jones, a volunteer worker. She grew up with her older brother, Whit, who is also adopted. Procter's parents divorced when she was just three years old, and she went on to attend Ravenscroft School in Raleigh.
At East Carolina University, Procter became a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and worked as a television weather anchor at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina. She graduated with degrees in journalism and dance, setting the stage for her future acting career.
