In 1872, he enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti, where he studied under the guidance of Domenico Morelli, Filippo Palizzi, and Gioacchino Toma.
After graduating, De Sanctis traveled to London and Paris, where he honed his skills and developed a unique style that blended traditional techniques with modern sensibilities. During this period, he worked for the esteemed art dealer Goupil & Cie and created a series of stunning female portraits, many featuring the same model, which would become his most iconic works.
In 1901, De Sanctis succeeded his mentor, Domenico Morelli, at the Accademia di Belle Arti, where he became a professor of etching and engraving. During his later years, he focused on painting French subjects, as well as a series of portraits of the Royal Family. De Sanctis passed away on June 18, 1924, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of art.
