Jack Perrin, born Lyman Wakefield Perrin on July 25, 1896, was an American actor who made a name for himself in the world of Westerns, starring in numerous B-movies and serial films during the 1920s and 1930s. With a career spanning over four decades, Perrin became synonymous with the genre, earning him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Early Life and Navy Service

Born in Three Rivers, Michigan, Perrin's family relocated to Los Angeles, California in the early 20th century. Before pursuing a career in acting, Perrin served in the United States Navy during World War I.

Rise to Fame in the 1920s

Following the war, Perrin returned to Los Angeles and began his acting career with Universal Studios. His first onscreen appearance was in the 1917 film Lukes Lost Liberty alongside Harold Lloyd. Throughout the 1920s, Perrin established himself as a leading man in a range of films, including cliffhangers, melodramas, and serials.

The B-Movie Western Era

The 1930s saw Perrin transition to B-movie Westerns, a genre in which he would excel. He often starred as Jack Perrin, but occasionally adopted the pseudonyms Jack Gable or Richard Dick Terry. One of his most notable roles during this period was as Davy Crockett in 1937's The Painted Stallion for Republic Pictures.

Later Years and Legacy

Although Perrin continued making films until 1960, many of his later roles were minor and often went uncredited. Despite this, his contributions to the world of cinema were recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Perrin passed away on December 17, 1967, aged 71, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most prolific actors of Hollywood's Golden Era.

Perrin married silent film actress Josephine Hill in 1920, and the couple divorced in 1937.
