Born on October 28, 1983, in Chelmsford, Essex, Thomas was the first of four boys. He attended King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford, before reading History at Pembroke College, Cambridge. It was during his time at Cambridge that Thomas developed his passion for comedy, becoming a member of the renowned Footlights Drama Society, where he met his future The Inbetweeners co-star Simon Bird.
Thomas' big break came when he landed the role of Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners, a sitcom that follows the misadventures of four friends navigating high school.
