Born on April 11, 1945, John Krebs is the son of Sir Hans Adolf Krebs, the acclaimed German biochemist who discovered the Krebs cycle. This illustrious heritage did not shield him from the rigor of education, as he went on to pursue his academic interests at the City of Oxford High School. Later, he earned his BA degree in 1966, upgraded to an MA degree in 1970, and secured a DPhil degree in the same year from Pembroke College, Oxford.

He held various posts at the University of British Columbia and the University College of North Wales, before returning to Oxford as a University Lecturer in Zoology.
