Ksenia Makarova is a retired Russian-American figure skater, known for her stunning performances and impressive accolades, including the 2010 Russian national champion title and a 10th place finish at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Born on December 20, 1992, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Makarova is the daughter of retired pair skaters Larisa Selezneva and Oleg Makarov, who won the Olympic bronze medal in 1984. She has a younger brother, Alexei, and her family immigrated to the United States when she was just 8 years old.
Makarova began skating at the age of 6, but didn't take to it immediately. However, after her family moved to the U.S., she tried skating again and began to enjoy it. She started competing in the United States in the 2003-2004 season at the intermediate level.
In the 2007-2008 season, Makarova switched to competing for Russia and made her junior international debut at the 2008 Junior Grand Prix in Belarus. She went on to win the 2009 Cup of Nice and took home the silver medal at the 2010 Skate Canada International.
Her impressive performances earned her a spot at the 2010 Russian national championships, where she won the gold medal. She then went on to represent Russia at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, where she placed 10th.
Makarova was an honors student at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, New York. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen on August 16, 2013.
