Luc Bondy, a Swiss theatre and film director, was renowned for his bold and unconventional approach to storytelling, which often left audiences divided, yet always engaged. Born on July 17, 1948, in Switzerland, Bondy trained in Paris with the renowned theatre teacher Jacques Lecoq, laying the foundation for his innovative and expressive directing style. His training with Lecoq instilled in him a deep understanding of the importance of physicality and movement in performance.

After completing his training, Bondy worked as an assistant at the Hamburg Thalia Theatre in 1969, where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience. His big break came in 1985 when he took over as director of the Schaubühne in Berlin, following the resignation of Peter Stein.
