Following a referendum that established Greece as a republic, he was elected as President of the Republic by a majority in the Hellenic Parliament, serving from December 18, 1974, to July 19, 1975. During his presidency, he played a crucial role in finalizing the new political institutions and promulgating the new Constitution of Greece.
Aside from his political achievements, Stasinopoulos was a prolific writer who made significant literary contributions. His work first appeared in the magazine The Muse in 1920-1923.
