Co-founder of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, producing and directing numerous music documentaries and films, showcasing the city's vibrant cultural heritage.
Davis's tireless efforts have not only preserved the city's musical legacy but have also put New Orleans on the global map as a hub of vibrant cultural expression. With his unwavering dedication to showcasing the best of the city's jazz, blues, gospel, Cajun, zydeco, and rock 'n' roll, Davis has rightfully earned the title of the "Maestro of Jazz Fest."
Davis's journey began in 1969, when he met George Wein, the founder of Jazz Fest, while studying drama and ethnomusicology at Tulane University. Dropping out of college to join Wein's team, Davis was determined to bring this vision to life. The first Jazz Fest took place at the Congo Square in Louis Armstrong Park, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Davis's guiding philosophy is simple yet profound: "Our bottom line is...musicianship. Whatever you do, you have to be great." This mantra has shaped the very fabric of Jazz Fest, ensuring that only the most exceptional talent takes the stage. His commitment to excellence has not only elevated the festival's reputation but has also contributed to the preservation of New Orleans' rich cultural heritage.
Davis has also made appearances on stage, emceeing at the Jazz Fest, and on screen, featuring as an MC in the 2005 documentary film Make It Funky, which presents a history of New Orleans funk music.
Quint Davis's unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting New Orleans' cultural heritage has left an indelible mark on the city's music scene. As the CEO of Festival Productions, Inc., Davis continues to drive the growth and evolution of Jazz Fest, ensuring that the festival remains a vibrant celebration of the city's rich cultural diversity.
Through his tireless efforts, Davis has not only contributed to the preservation of New Orleans' unique cultural identity but has also cemented his place as one of the city's most beloved and respected cultural ambassadors.
