Later that year, he joined the Institute for Automotive Engineering at Dresden Technical University as a research assistant and Ph.D. candidate.
In 1933, the legendary Ferdinand Porsche persuaded Eberan von Eberhorst to join Auto Union, where he initially served as a development engineer within the racing department at Horch works in Zwickau. His remarkable skills and innovative approach soon led to his promotion as the head of the racing engine department.
During this period, Eberan von Eberhorst made significant contributions to Auto Union's successes, including the development of side skirts and aerodynamic bodywork along the belly of the record-breaking streamliner car. This masterpiece featured a swept volume of three liters, in accordance with the contemporary Grand Prix regulations, and a supercharged V12 rearmounted engine capable of producing 400 bhp (300 kW).
To improve the drivability of the car, Eberan von Eberhorst introduced several innovative chassis modifications, including revised driver and fuel tank positions, and a new de Dion rear suspension system. These enhancements led to Grand Prix victories for renowned drivers Tazio Nuvolari and Hermann Paul Müller.
