After two failed attempts, Vasnetsov was finally accepted into the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1868. Under the tutelage of renowned artists, including Timofey Neff and Alexei Markov, Vasnetsov honed his skills, eventually earning a silver medal for his work The Wedding of Tsar Ivan IV and Anastasia Zakharina in 1870.
