The Sugarhill Records Era

In 1979, Wimbish, along with guitarist Skip McDonald and drummer Keith LeBlanc, formed the house rhythm section for Sugarhill Records. Although they didn't play on the Sugarhill Gang's iconic song "Rapper's Delight," they did lay down tracks for other notable hits, including "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, "White Lines" by Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel, and "Apache" by the Sugarhill Gang.

Tackhead and Beyond

In 1984, Wimbish, McDonald, and LeBlanc headed to London, where they collaborated with producer Adrian Sherwood and formed the group Tackhead. As a member of Tackhead and as a session bassist, Wimbish became in-demand, working with a diverse range of artists. He even came close to becoming the permanent bassist for The Rolling Stones in 1993, but lost the position to Darryl Jones.

Living Colour and Beyond

Wimbish joined Living Colour in 1992, replacing Muzz Skillings, and went on to play on the album "Stain." His work with Living Colour further solidified his reputation as a versatile and accomplished bassist.
