Fiona Bruce is a British Conservative Party politician who has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for Congleton since the 2010 general election. She is known for her strong evangelical Christian beliefs and her efforts to make a positive impact on British politics.
Fiona Claire Bruce (née Riley) was born on 26 March 1957 in Wick, Caithness, Scotland. She attended Burnley High School for Girls and later studied law at the Victoria University of Manchester. She furthered her studies at Chester Law College and was admitted as a solicitor in 1981.
Bruce began her political career in 2004 when she was elected to Warrington Borough Council as a Conservative representing the Ward of Penketh and Cuerdley. She served as Executive Member for Finance from 2006 to 2009 and later stepped down from the Council upon her election to Parliament in 2010.
In 2005, Bruce contested Warrington South in the general election, finishing second with 33% of the vote. She was placed on the Conservative A-List of priority parliamentary candidates in 2006, following efforts by the Conservative Women2Win mentoring and pressure group.
In 2010, Bruce was elected as MP for Congleton with 45.8% of the vote and a majority of 7,063. She has been a member of the Scottish Affairs Select Committee since 2010.
