Ara Gevorgyan is a renowned Armenian musician, composer, and musical producer, celebrated for his immense contribution to the world of music. With a career spanning over three decades, he has left an indelible mark on the music industry, earning him the title of Honorary Artist of the Republic of Armenia.
Born on April 19, 1960, Ara Gevorgyan is the son of Armenian folksinger Valya Samvelyan. He began his musical journey at a young age, studying at School 31 of Yerevan and the A. Tigranyan Musical School simultaneously. Later, he attended the Yerevan 8 college of Fine Arts for two years, followed by the Armenian State Pedagogical University, where he specialized in woodwind instruments and pop music department from 1983 to 1987.
In 1983, Ara founded the popular Armenian pop-rock band, Rally, which participated in the Song-85 festival. This marked the beginning of his illustrious career, which has seen him collaborate with legendary artists such as Jivan Gasparyan, Ian Gillan, Demis Roussos, Pedro Eustache, and Daniel Decker.
Ara Gevorgyan's discography boasts a wide range of acclaimed albums, including "Over the Ocean" (1995), "Nostalgie" (1997), "Ani" (1999), "Khor Virap" (2001), and "Adana" (2005). He has also composed music for various projects, such as the "Golden Cage" ballet, dedicated to the Bolshoi Theater and performed by Russian prima ballerina Anastasia Volochkova.
One of the highlights of his career was participating in the Opening Ceremony of the Cultural Year of Armenia in Russia, held at the Moscow Kremlin Music Hall, which was attended by the presidents of Armenia and Russia, Robert Kocharyan and Vladimir Putin, respectively, as well as the famous French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.
Ara Gevorgyan's outstanding contributions to the world of music have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Mikhail Lomonosov Russian medal and the gold medal of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia.
