At just 12 years old, Lady Grizel played a brave and pivotal role in this plot, carrying letters from her father to Robert Baillie of Jerviswood, a conspirator imprisoned for his involvement. This courageous act ultimately led to her father's flight to the United Provinces, where he remained in hiding until the Glorious Revolution.
In 1692, Lady Grizel married George Baillie, son of Robert Baillie, whom she had met and fallen in love with at the tender age of 12. Despite her parents' wish for a more advantageous match, Lady Grizel remained resolute in her choice, turning down the prestigious offer to become one of Queen Mary's maids of honour.
The couple had three children: Grizel, Rachel, and a short-lived son, Robert. Lady Grizel's daughters went on to marry notable figures, with Grizel marrying British Army officer Sir Alexander Murray of Stanhope and Rachel marrying Charles Lord Binning.
Lady Grizel's elder daughter, Lady Grizel Murray of Stanhope, inherited a manuscript containing her mother's songs, showcasing her literary talent and creativity. While few of her songs have survived, they demonstrate her skill as a songwriter and poet.
