Upon the death of Carlo Cignani, Dal Sole became the leading painter in Bologna, a position he solidified with his breathtaking frescoes in the cupola of Santa Maria dei Poveri and his altarpiece of the Trinity for the Chiesa del Suffragio in Imola. Dal Sole's contributions to the Aenid Gallery of the Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata remain some of his most celebrated works. His canvas depicting Andromache weeping before Aeneas was part of a grand decorative scheme that brought together some of the era's most talented artists.
