For seven weeks, the movement gained momentum, with protesters constructing a replica of the Statue of Liberty, dubbed the "Goddess of Democracy." But the Chinese government, under Deng Xiaoping's leadership, had other plans. On a fateful night, troops and tanks rolled into the square, violently dispersing the crowds, and ending the peaceful protests in a bloody crackdown.

Union forces triumph over Confederacy in Virginia (Philippi, Barbour County, West Virginia, 26416, USA) 1861
As Rebel cavalry fled in disarray, Union troops burst into cheers and triumphant shouts, celebrating their first major victory in the American Civil War. On June 3, 1861, the Battle of Philippi (or the Philippi Races) saw a humiliating defeat for the Confederate forces in Barbour County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Led by Colonel Benjamin Franklin Kelley, the Union forces cleverly executed a surprise dawn attack, catching their opponents off guard. The Confederates, largely untrained and poorly equipped, panicked and fled in chaos, earning the battle its sarcastic nickname. This decisive Union win boosted morale and marked a crucial turning point in the war's early stages.
Ed White and James McDivitt blasted off into space on the Gemini 4 mission, an ambitious four-day orbit around the Earth. But the real excitement came when Ed White slipped on his gold-plated helmet, stepped into the void, and took the first American spacewalk, floating effortlessly 100 miles above the planet. As he gazed at the stunning blue horizon, White's childlike wonder was palpable: "I'm coming back in, and it's beautiful!" The successful mission marked a giant leap for NASA, paving the way for future spacewalks and lunar landings.
